Freda’s Journey Suite Debut performance
Freda’s Journey Suite is a heartfelt musical story that honors the resilience and courage of 14-year-old Freda, who traveled alone from Russia to Canada in the early 20th century. After losing her mother and brother during the pogroms, Freda embarked on a harrowing journey by boat, driven by the hope of a new life.
This compelling five-movement suite reflects the hardships, determination, and spirit that defined her journey, taking listeners on an emotional voyage through time. Composed by Adam Dobres, Freda’s great-grandson, the work will be performed by Dobres on guitar, accompanied by the Sooke Philharmonic Orchestra on April 27th, 2025, weaving a story of loss, survival, and the pursuit of hope.
